Patterned Wallpaper — Damask, Trellis, Check & Texture

Patterned wallpaper covers everything between a plain and a full floral: damasks, trellis and lattice designs, checks and woven textures, and abstract prints. The right pattern depends on the size of the room and how much you want the walls to stand out.

See all wallpaper, or browse floral, geometric, striped and textured designs. Brands here include Laura Ashley and Belgravia.

Types of wallpaper pattern

Damask wallpaper

Damask is a formal, symmetrical design based on traditional woven fabric. It suits dining rooms, hallways and period houses, and in soft greys and neutrals it works in a modern room too.

Check and weave wallpaper

Check and woven-look papers give a room a tailored, cosy feel, a little like a tweed jacket. Tartan-style weaves suit studies, snugs and bedrooms.

Trellis and abstract wallpaper

Trellis designs bring a garden feel with a neat, regular structure. Abstract and painterly patterns are looser and more modern, and suit a feature wall.

Pattern scale and room size

As a rule, small patterns suit small rooms and large patterns need space to be seen. In a small room, a busy, large-scale design can feel overwhelming; in a large room, a tiny print can disappear and read as a texture. If in doubt, use a bold pattern on one wall only.

Pairing patterned wallpaper with paint

Choose a paint colour taken from the background of the wallpaper for the other walls and woodwork. It ties the room together and lets the pattern stand out.

Order all your rolls together

Wallpaper is printed in batches, and the shade can vary slightly from one batch to the next. Order every roll for the room at the same time so they come from the same batch, and check the batch number on each roll matches before you start hanging.

Delivery

Wallpaper that is in stock is delivered in a few days; designs we order in from the supplier take around two weeks. Our own team delivers across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Patterned wallpaper FAQs

What is a pattern repeat?

The distance down the roll before the design starts again. A longer repeat means more waste, so allow extra when you order.

What is the difference between a straight and an offset match?

A straight match lines up at the same height across each drop; an offset match shifts every other drop down by part of the repeat.

Can patterned wallpaper work in a small room?

Yes. Choose a smaller pattern in light colours, or use a bold design on one wall.
