Foy's Interiors - Lamps: Floor Lamps, Table Lamps and Bedside Lamps

Lamps — Table Lamps, Floor Lamps & Bedside Lamps

Lamps are what make a room feel lived in. They put light at eye level, where you sit and read, and in the evening they can light a room on their own. Choose the type first, then the height, then the shade.

Shop table lamps and floor lamps, and find lamp shades and light bulbs to go with them. Somewhere to put them: side tables, bedside tables and console tables. See all lighting.

Table lamps

The table lamps here come in ceramic, coloured and smoked glass, marble, brass, chrome and matt black, from slim buffet lamps for a sideboard to desk lamps for a study. Some are touch lamps, which switch on, and often dim, at a touch of the base, and some come as a twin pack.

Bedside lamps

A pair of matching bedside lamps makes a bed look planned. Sitting up in bed, the bottom of the shade should be at about eye level, so you see the light and not the bulb. A touch lamp is easy to find in the dark.

Table lamps with matching floor lamps

Several ranges come as both a table lamp and a floor lamp, such as Spool, Innsbruck, Thierry and Cosmo, so you can repeat the same design around the room.

Floor lamps

A floor lamp lights a corner, a reading chair or the end of a sofa without needing a table. A mother and child floor lamp has two heads: a main uplighter that bounces light off the ceiling and a smaller adjustable reading light. Task floor lamps have an adjustable head, and multi-light floor lamps spread light across a wider area.

Rechargeable and cordless lamps

USB rechargeable lamps need no socket while in use, so they can go in the middle of a dining table, on a shelf or out to the patio; some are described as suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Check the product page before using one outside.

Lamp base or lamp with shade?

Most lamps here come with a shade. A few are sold as a base only, which lets you choose your own shade. As a rule of thumb, the shade should be roughly twice as wide as the base and deep enough to hide the bulb holder.

Lamp FAQs

What height should a bedside lamp be?

When you sit up in bed, the bottom of the shade should be at about eye level. Taller headboards and higher bedside tables need a shorter lamp, and vice versa.

What is a mother and child floor lamp?

A floor lamp with a main uplighter and a second, smaller adjustable lamp for reading, each usually switched separately.

What is a touch lamp?

A lamp you switch on, off and often dim by touching its metal base, without needing a switch on the cable.
