Lighting
Good lighting does more for a room than almost anything else. Floor lamps and table lamps add warmth and a soft, layered glow, perfect for living rooms and bedrooms. Ceiling lights make more of a statement, from elegant pendants over a dining table to chandeliers in a hallway, with flush and semi-flush fittings ideal where ceilings are lower. Add wall lights for a gentle background glow, bathroom lights designed to cope with damp and steam, and the bulbs to go with them all.
Mirrors
A mirror is the quickest way to make a room feel bigger and brighter, especially when hung to reflect a window. Wall mirrors work anywhere from the hallway to the living room, floor-standing and full-length mirrors are ideal in bedrooms and dressing areas, and vanity mirrors are made for getting ready. Choose a shape and frame that suits the room, whether that's a round mirror to soften a flat wall or a large rectangular design as a focal point.

Wall art fills the blank spaces and sets the tone of a room. From abstract prints and botanical designs to framed pieces that pick up the colours in your sofa or rug, art is one of the easiest ways to add character without changing anything else.

A few simple rules of thumb make it much easier to get the scale right.
Getting Mirror Size Right
The most useful guide is to choose a mirror around two-thirds of the width of the wall or the furniture it sits above, so it feels deliberate rather than lost. Leave at least 4 to 6in (10 to 15cm) of clear wall around it, which is the difference between a wall that looks styled and one that looks crowded. A slightly oversized mirror can make a small room feel taller and brighter, while a small mirror on a large wall tends to look uncertain.
Getting Lighting Right
For a pendant or chandelier over a dining table, hang the bottom of the shade around 30 to 36in (75 to 90cm) above the table surface — high enough to see across, low enough to feel intimate. In a hallway, make sure the bottom of the shade clears head height comfortably. And layer your lighting rather than relying on one ceiling fitting: a table lamp and a floor lamp alongside the main light will do far more for the mood of a room.

What size mirror do I need?
As a general rule, choose a mirror around two-thirds of the width of the wall or the piece of furniture it hangs above — so a mirror above a console table should be slightly narrower than the table itself. Leave around 4 to 6in (10 to 15cm) of clear wall space around it so it doesn't feel crowded. A larger mirror will do more to open up a small room, particularly if it's positioned to reflect a window or natural light.
How high should I hang a pendant light over a dining table?
Hang the bottom of the pendant or chandelier roughly 30 to 36in (75 to 90cm) above the surface of the table. That's low enough to feel warm and intimate over the table, but high enough that people can see each other across it without ducking. For sizing, a good starting point is a pendant around one-third to two-thirds the width of the table beneath it.
Where should I hang a mirror to make a room look bigger?
Position it to reflect a window or a natural light source, which bounces daylight back into the room and instantly makes it feel brighter and more open. Reflecting an attractive focal point — a fireplace, a piece of art, a view — works well too. What you want to avoid is a mirror reflecting clutter or a blank wall, which does nothing for the space.
What should I look for in bathroom lighting?
Bathroom lights need to cope with moisture and steam, so they're rated differently from ordinary fittings. Look for an appropriate IP rating for where the light will go — the closer it is to a bath or shower, the higher the protection needed, and any fitting near water should be suitable for that zone. Beyond safety, think about the light itself: an overhead fitting gives you general brightness, while lights placed either side of a mirror at around eye level give the most even light on your face and avoid harsh shadows.
Do I need more than one light in a room?
Layered lighting almost always looks better than a single ceiling fitting. A main ceiling light gives you overall brightness, but adding a table lamp or floor lamp creates pools of warmer light that make a room feel welcoming rather than flat. Wall lights are useful for a soft background glow. Being able to switch between them means the room can work for both practical tasks and relaxing in the evening.

We have a selection of our lighting, mirrors and accessories on display at our Enniskillen showroom, so you're very welcome to visit and see them in real light — which makes a real difference with lamps and finishes.
